Doppelganger Anime Playing Sister Releases 1st Episode

The first episode of Playing Sister (Onee-chan Gokko), a three-episode doppelganger-themed anime that’s part of a project of the same name by vocaloid producer and illustrator HarumakiGohan, has debuted on YouTube.

The release includes closed-caption subtitles for English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.

The Playing Sister project’s premise involves two sisters from a village that has a doppelganger legend. The anime’s synopsis reads:

“The girl at home with you… isn’t your sister.”

In the distant future, on the outskirts left behind by the rapid concentration of advanced science and technology in urban areas, lies a remote mountain village known as Kagami Village.

“Behave yourself, or a Double will come for you.”

Such old folklore still lingers in this village.

Akane Higure, a middle school student living in Kagami Village, has been eagerly awaiting the return of her older sister, Sui Higure, who is finally being discharged from the hospital after a year.

However, not long after her sister comes home, Akane receives a single phone call.

“The girl at home with you… isn’t your sister.”

Aside from the anime series, which is expected to wrap up about a year from Episode 1’s release, the project is made up of vocaloid songs. An animated music video for the first of these songs, titled “Doppelgänger” and featuring Hatsune Miku vocals, dropped some days ago.

HarumakiGohan is credited with the anime’,s direction, script, music, and sound. Their animation studio, Studio Gohan, is handling the animation production.
