Released into Early Access on Steam earlier this year, solo developer Spacepiano Games’ first-person supernatural survival horror game The Victor Initiative will be receiving a major update next month with its fifth chapter. You can check out the first four chapters right now, which feature cameos from industry figures/actors such as Remedy Entertainment’s Sam Lake (of Alan Wake and Control fame) and Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Samantha Béart.
More cameos are expected with Chapter 5, though those are being kept under wraps for now.
The Victor Initiative sees you being tasked by a shady government agency to close a “rift” hidden deep within an abandoned research facility located in North Wales, UK. Known as The Initiative, the mysterious government facility rarely communicated with the outside world, but 60 years ago, communication stopped completely. Now, you’ve been tasked to dive back into the nightmare.
Inside The Initiative is a spiralling maze of horrors. Deranged ramblings adorn the walls, loose papers are strewn across the floor, and the terrifying threats that caused this ruin are still in there with you.
Upping the tension is the fact that you have no health bar, nobody to help you, and little information on what you’ll encounter. All you know is that you must complete the mission. You’ll make your way through the winding halls in a bid to survive to the next room. Each room will present a new threat, or a new puzzle that you need to solve in order to keep pushing through. You’ll also find new tools as you delve deeper into the facility, which you’ll need in order to deal with new threats that get thrown at you.
To further flesh out the game’s world, there are audio logs and documents, with some audio logs featuring special cameo appearances by the aforementioned personalities and more. And because we’re all suckers for this type of thing, The Victor Initiative also features live-action cutscenes.
