Last October, we brought you the news that Saw filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman was prepping a brand-new horror vehicle entitled The Monster.
However, since then, we’ve only issued one further update on the project, with progress seemingly unavailable in the intervening time. Now, we can clarify that the project is still very much on the horizon, with an unreported title change leading to some confusion among news outlets.
Now entitled Twisted, we can confirm that the MPA has given Bousman’s film an “R” rating for some gnarly sounding content.
According to their official filing, the MPA has issued an “R” rating for:
“strong/bloody violent content, gore, sexual assault, suicide, language and some sexual material.”
That’s… quite the description!
According to an official logline, Twisted details:
“Two millennials who make quick money by leasing incredible New York City apartments they don’t own to people who don’t know they are being scammed. The con works brilliantly until they run into an apartment owner with a dark secret who flips the game on them.”
Terrifier star Lauren LaVera will headline Twisted, alongside a plethora of horror genre alumni including Alicia Witt, Gina Philips, and Djimon Hounsou.
Former Saw producer Mark Burg will produce for Envision Media Arts, alongside Lee Nelson and David Tish. Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer of Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane have penned the script, so it’s safe to say Twisted is in very good hands.
Although the film is currently without a release date, we know that Paramount subsidiary Republic Pictures will distribute Twisted.
A trailer is expected soon, so watch this space!
We’ll let you know as soon as we have a confirmed release date.
