Music label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) launched a new division, TDE Films, earlier this year, with Deadline reporting urban action horror movie The Zone as the label’s first production.
It was announced that Dallas Jackson is directing from a script by David Hayter (X-Men, Watchmen), and the filmmaker’s recent post on Instagram suggests stellar practical effects ahead as he gears up for production.
Plot details for The Zone are under wraps, other than the project is described as having a high concept sci-fi twist.
20th Century Studios acquired the project, which may also feature effects from SFX master and Predator franchise mainstay Alec Gillis. Jackson, who recently visited the 20th Century Studios lot, posted images and a caption that signals shooting should begin soon.
“Making movies is all about team building! Getting locked in for 2026,” the filmmaker writes.
Browsing Dallas Jackson’s Instagram stories presents even more intriguing clues about the mysterious project. Namely, the filmmaker shares an image from The Thing, and shares a comic cover for The Zone that also indicates Thing-like body horror in store. Partnered with 20th Century Studios and Gillis, this catapults this onto our anticipated horror list.
Jackson was the writer/director of 2018’s Thriller for Blumhouse/Netflix.
Founded in 2004 by Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) is a Hip-Hop and R&B record label that has launched and nurtured the careers of Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, SZA, Isaiah Rashad, SiR, Doechii, Ray Vaughn, and more.
Stay tuned.
