Animation planning and production studio CygamesPictures will be renamed to CyPic on April 6, the day after its date of founding.
That’s not the only upcoming change for the studio, which turns 10 this year. Currently, CygamesPictures is a subsidiary of Cygames, which the company CyberAgent set up in 2011 to further its video game business aspirations. Come February 27, CygamesPictures will become a consolidated subsidiary of CyberAgent itself through direct share acquisition. The change will also see CyberAgent representative director and president Takahiro Yamauchi joining CygamesPictures as a director.
Current president Nobuhiro Takenaka, who has been involved as production supervisor for anime like Umamusume: Cinderella Gray and Apocalypse Hotel, will remain in the role after the reorganization. Of the existing group of directors, only Joji Seita (who has production supervisor credits on shows like 86 -Eighty Six-, Brave Bang Bravern!, and Umamusume: Cinderella Gray) will stay on.
In CyberAgent’s financial results report (PDF) for the first quarter of the 2026 financial year (October to December 2025), the company said that CygamesPictures will also be moved to its Media & IP Business segment to “strengthen synergy among group companies.”
CygamesPictures’s early credits include Blade Runner Black Out 2022, Manaria Friends, and Princess Connect! Re: Dive. It has also produced anime like The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls U149, Brave Bang Bravern!, Umamusume: Pretty Derby — Road to the Top, Umamusume: Pretty Derby — Beginning of a New Era, Umamusume: Cinderella Gray, The Summer Hikaru Died, and Apocalypse Hotel. Its latest title is the recently announced The World is Dancing, which is directed by Backflip!! and The Great Passage‘s Toshimasa Kuroyanagi and is scheduled for a Summer 2026 anime season premiere.
CyberAgent was founded in 1998 and is currently involved in several fields, including media, IP, internet advertising, and games. Some other recognizable names that fall under its umbrella are the streaming service ABEMA and media content creator Nitroplus.
In 2025, CyberAgent established the animation studios Studio Kurm (led by Yaiba: Samurai Legend and Ranking of Kings animation producer Maiko Okada) and CA Soa (led by former Sunrise producer Masakazu Ogawa). A couple of years earlier, it set up Animation AI Lab, which “explores how generative AI can transform the animation production process” and researches “everything from background design and character generation to motion, voice, and music.”
