COMING SOON: Brighton’s getting a cute new coastal brunch spot as Doozy Deli joins the Jetty Road food scene

A new brunch spot is coming to Jetty Road, and it’s going to be anything but a doozy.

Doozy Deli is brought to us by Jess Mann, a hospitality veteran who, after a decade in the industry, is opening her first venue.

“I’ve been in hospitality for about 10 years now, it’s the first and only job I’ve ever had,” shared Jess. “Owning a cafe has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I’ve been managing different cafes for maybe three or four years, but I’ve always wanted to go out on my own. I was just so ready.”

After looking for a space for almost a year, Jess says this one was the perfect fit. “There were a couple I was keen on, but when this one came up, it just felt meant to be. It was honestly a dream come true.” The space in question is located on Jetty Road in Brighton, formerly home to Landough’s doughnut shop.

Jess herself grew up in Brighton, so this is almost like coming home. “I actually grew up in Brighton and moved into the city in my early 20s, so it’s a real full-circle moment. I used to come down here with my mum every morning for coffee when I was younger, and she’d always say, ‘I can totally see you doing this one day.’ Being able to land a spot on Jetty Road is really special.”

While small, Doozy will be cute, cosy, and perfect for quick lunches and morning coffees.

“When we took it over, the space didn’t have any seating. It’s quite small, so we wanted to make it cute and cosy,” said Jess. “We’ve added window seating, and what we call a coffee nook, a little corner with booth-style seating and small tables. We’ve also got an espresso bar. The whole vibe is very intimate, very community-focused.”

To make it even more special, Jess and her friends are tackling the renos by themselves.

As for the menu, it’s an easy grab-and-go vibe, with a focus on using and supporting local producers. “We’ll predominantly have fresh, made-to-order sandos. We’re doing toasted jaffles too. To start, we’re keeping things really simple and doing them really well. As we grow, the menu and the brand will grow too. But right now, it’s all about quality and keeping it tight.

“We have locked in Kindred Coffee. They’re a huge part of what makes our menu special. I’ve worked with them before, they’re two young guys from Adelaide, and they roast locally. Supporting local is really important to us.”

Jess envisions Doozy Deli to be a place where you can grab a great sandwich and head to the beach, sit with friends, and just enjoy that beachside lifestyle. They have limited indoor seating, so the idea is really about making it easy for people to pick up something delicious and enjoy it by the water. Just the way Jess grew up enjoying Brighton and its eateries.
