CHRISTMAS YOU AND ME | Write Out Loud

CHRISTMAS YOU AND ME | Write Out Loud

There’s no snow this Christmas

A frost will have to do

But anyway it’s warm inside

For just me and you;

No longer are we woken

By kids at 5 o’clock

But later Alexa played us

Jingle Bell Rock.

Christmases came and went

When we would always be

Opening our presents in

The heart of family;

But children become grown-ups

And from the nest they flee

Though our kids are still our children

But it’s now just you and me.

We’d sit around the table

And eat round half past four

Often full to bursting

But making room for more;

No-one wanted turkey

Least of all the kids

They wanted chicken nuggets

So that was what we did.

You’d have a glass of wine or two

I’m kidding – it was more;

We’d play some silly party games

I’d cheat (I kept the score!);

The kids would go on all night long

If it wasn’t time for bed

But really it was you and me

Dog-tired and over-fed.
