Christmas carol clash in Alappuzha leaves several injured after youth club rivalry turns violent – Kerala News

Several people were injured after a clash broke out between two Christmas carol groups in the Charummoodu–Nooranad area of Kerala’s Alappuzha district late on Christmas Eve, police said.

The incident occurred around 11.30 pm when an argument between two carol groups escalated into a physical fight. The groups were reportedly led by members of two local youth clubs, Yuva and Liberty.

Police said the clash stemmed from a long-standing internal dispute within a youth club that had been active in the area for many years. Following differences within the group, a section of members had broken away and formed a new club named Liberty.

This rivalry allegedly triggered the confrontation during the carol rounds.

Some media reports said women and children were also injured in the incident. Police confirmed that the injured persons had visited hospitals for treatment, adding that the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact sequence of events and fix responsibility, police added.
