Channel 7 confirms local premiere date for season nine of hit U.S. series 9-1-1

Channel 7 has confirmed the local premiere date for season nine of hit US series 9-1-1, with the long running drama set to return to Australian screens later this month.

After debuting in the US in October, the new season will finally roll out locally from Monday, 26 January, with episodes streaming from 6.00pm on 7plus ahead of a primetime broadcast at 8.30pm on Seven.

The ninth season opens with a high concept double episode that pushes the series into its most ambitious territory yet, sending members of the 118 Fire Department beyond Los Angeles and into outer space.

The premiere sees Eddie Diaz and Hen Wilson rescue eccentric billionaire tech mogul Trip Hauser after a bizarre whale related emergency. Grateful and impulsive, Trip invites Hen to take part in a historic space flight, with LAPD Field Sergeant Athena Grant joining her on the mission.

Things quickly escalate when a powerful geomagnetic storm strikes, causing chaos both in space and back on Earth. As Hen and Athena face disaster beyond the atmosphere, the rest of the 118 are left responding to emergencies across Los Angeles, including falling asteroids and space debris hitting the city.

Season nine continues the show’s long running tradition of blending large scale spectacle with character driven storytelling, while expanding its scope following eight seasons of escalating emergencies.

The series stars Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Ryan Guzman and Kenneth Choi.

9-1-1 returns Monday, 26 January, with a double episode season nine premiere streaming from 6.00pm on 7plus and airing at 8.30pm on Channel 7.
