The Celtics filled a pair of open roster spots on Thursday, and one of the players was briefly a member of the 2024 championship team.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Celtics signed Dalano Banton to a 10-day contract.

Banton, a 6-foot-8-inch, 203-pound forward, appeared in just two games this season with the Clippers. He played in 67 games and made seven starts the year before with the Blazers.

He now returns to Boston, where he spent a portion of the 2024 season. He averaged 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in 7.1 minutes per game on a loaded team that eventually beat the Dallas Mavericks in five games during the NBA Finals.

Banton, though, was not with the team for the playoff run. The Celtics traded him to the Blazers for a second-round pick in February 2024. Banton averaged 16.7 points during his final 30 games of that season with Portland, bringing his total scoring average for the season up to 10.3.

The increased role with the Blazers did not last long. He spent the 2025 season with them before signing with the Mavericks, who cut him in training camp this season. Banton averaged 23.7 points and 6.1 assists in 14 G-League games this season.

The Celtics also converted rookie two-way guard John Tonje to a standard 10-day NBA deal, according to Scotto. Boston acquired Tonje earlier this month in a trade that sent Chris Boucher to the Jazz.

Tonje, a 6-foot-4, 218-pound guard, averaged 18.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in 20 G-League games this season with the Salt Lake City Stars and Maine Celtics. He’s shooting 35 percent from 3-point range. He was a second-round pick by Utah in the 2025 Draft.
