Brisbane Roar’s 2025-26 revolution rolled into Round 6 on Friday night as a 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory sent the in-form Queenslanders up to second on the Isuzu UTE A-League table.
Midfielder Sam Klein’s top-corner finish in the first half put Brisbane on top at Suncorp Stadium and extended his side’s home unbeaten streak to seven games as the Roar revolution continued under head coach Michael Valkanis.

Brisbane finished second last in 2024-25 and, in the process, fell to eight consecutive home defeats – an all-time Isuzu UTE A-League record – amid a 12-game winless home streak between March, 2024 and April, 2025.
They broke that streak late in the 2024-25 season and have since gone seven games unbeaten at home (five wins, two draws) to fly up the table in the new campaign.

For Victory, however, Friday’s loss to Brisbane was a third defeat in succession for Arthur Diles’ side. With just one win from six games this season, 11th-placed Victory could finish Round 6 at the foot of the table should Newcastle Jets defeat Auckland FC on Sunday afternoon.
The 1-0 defeat further highlighted Victory’s goalscoring woes; Diles’ side have scored just four goals in six games this season and have conceded 11, the second-most of any team in the league.
Diles turned to Spanish superstar Juan Mata and Socceroo Nishan Velupillay – featuring for the first time this season – late in the game as the visitors rolled the dice in search of a way back into the game.
The attacking changes amounted to nil as Brisbane saw out the final 20 minutes to win 1-0 at Suncorp Stadium – but not before a late moment of drama when Brisbane weren’t penalised for what Victory felt was a handball offence in the box from Milorad Stajić.
The 1-0 defeat was soured late into stoppage time as Denis Genreau saw red for a stamp on Brisbane substitute Henry Hore. The Genreau send-off sparked a fiery altercation after the final whistle as players flew in from both sides; Roar keeper Dean Bouzanis was cautioned for his role in the action.
