In an exclusive interview on India Today, Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, discusses the recent ceasefire between the United States, Israel, and Iran and the road ahead following 38 days of conflict. Ambassador Azar asserts that the military operations successfully achieved their primary objectives: removing existential nuclear and ballistic missile threats and significantly debilitating the Iranian regime. He highlights the elimination of top IRGC leadership and intelligence chiefs, alongside the destruction of critical military and petrochemical infrastructure. Azar argues that the ‘balance of power has changed’ in the region, noting that Iran’s current capabilities are a fraction of what they were at the start of the operation. While he remains cautious about the ceasefire’s longevity, he emphasises Israel’s right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
