A day after PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss announced that his party would contest the 2026 Assembly election as a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, party founder S. Ramadoss on Thursday (January 8, 2025) termed the talks illegal and said that he alone was authorised by the party to negotiate electoral alliance.

Speaking to reporters at his Thailapuram residence in Villupuram district, Mr. Ramadoss dubbed reports of his estranged son Anbumani Ramadoss finalising seat sharing talks with the AIADMK as a “mockery” and said that it constituted an act of contempt of court.

“As far as the PMK is concerned, the party cadres are with me. A few of them who were nurtured by me in the party have gone to the other side for money. I have been authorised by the General Council and the Executive Council to decide on electoral alliances. Most of the party cadres and the public have realised Anbumani’s betrayal and will not vote for a person who has betrayed his own father,” he said.

Mr. Ramadoss reiterated that the party under his leadership will hold alliance talks and the alliance in, which the PMK is a constituent will form the government. The party’s laws specifically empower the founder as the sole decision-maker for alliances.

Referring to the AIADMK finalising seat sharing talks with Mr. Anbumani, he said that the party would hold discussions with senior party members, elicit their views and take a decision in the next few days. The party would also announce its alliance in a few days, he added.
