Eagles
In less than two weeks, the Eagles went from an almost guarantee at 8-2 to wrap up the NFC East by the start of December and a top seed in the playoffs.
And now, they’re a few hours away from cheering on a Detroit Lions team missing multiple key players in the secondary including Kerby Joseph and Terrion Arnold to beat the explosive offense of the Dallas Cowboys. Who went from 4 games back of 1st in the NFC East, to now only 1.5 games with a schedule that gets easier week by week.
Remaining Matchups
With only five weeks left in the regular season, every win is about to matter more than they could have in September. With a 1.5 game lead, the 8-4 Eagles will have the following matchups to finish their season:
Eagles Games
@ LA Chargers (8-4)
VS Las Vegas Raiders (2-10)
@ Washington Commanders (3-9)
@ Buffalo Bills (8-4)
VS Washington Commanders (3-9)
With only two games left against potential playoff opponents, we’ll get a look at the end of the year if the Eagles offense will truly struggle against even the worst of opponents, or if things are actually as bad as they seem.
Since returning from the Bye Week, the Eagles have averaged 15.5 points in four games. Will the defense be able to hold teams to less than two scores for the next two months?
There’s also quarterbacks in Justin Herbert and Jayden Daniels that are questionable to see playing time this week. A benefit to the end of the Eagles schedule if they are able to see backup QBs for multiple games to end the year.
Meanwhile the Cowboys have been operating like a different team since the trade deadline. With an average of 29.3 points a game since Week 10 it’s been the defense able to turn things around. Only giving up an average of 21.6 points in their previous 3 games. It’s more than possible the Cowboys are able to make another push to elapse the Eagles for the division title late in the year.
Dallas Games
@ Detroit Lions (7-5)
VS Minnesota Vikings (4-8)
VS LA Chargers (8-4)
@ Washington Commanders (3-9)
@ New York Giants (2-11)
In a similar situation as the Eagles with only 2 potential playoff opponents. The Cowboys would realistically need to win out. Barring a complete collapse from the Eagles giving them an open road to the playoffs. Not entirely impossible, as the Cowboys are slated to play the same teams with injured quarterbacks. Or in the Vikings case, some of the worst QB performances of all time.
Currently up 20-9 at halftime. Will the Lions be able to hold on and help the Eagles with keeping a lead for the division down the stretch?
