More than 100 workers will lose their jobs when American Eagle Outfitters shuts down a distribution facility in Devens, according to a WARN notice filed with the state.
AE Regional Distribution Co., LLC, a subsidiary of the retailer, operates the center at 64 Jackson Road, which will lay off 103 workers. The notice said that layoffs will begin on April 12 when the distribution center closes.
The operation was previously part of Quiet Logistics, which American Eagle bought for $360 million in 2021 to speed up its supply chain.
Quiet Logistics, founded in 2009, operates fulfillment centers in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, St. Louis, and Jacksonville, helping retailers offer faster delivery.
In its latest annual report, American Eagle said it is restructuring its logistics division. It reported that Quiet Logistics cost the company $25 million as it shifted its strategy to boost profits.
In an email to Boston.com, the company said it’s taking the next step by closing its Quiet Logistics business entirely over the coming months.
“This strategic decision will enable AEO to prioritize growth and focus on its portfolio of leading lifestyle brands,” the company said.
The company added that it will help customers transition to new providers.
In addition, “We appreciate the contributions of our associates, and we are committed to doing what we can to support them as well,” the company said.
American Eagle Outfitters’ brand portfolio includes American Eagle, Aerie, OFFL/NE by Aerie, Todd Snyder, and Unsubscribed.
