Akane-banashi Reveals New Trailer and Key Visual, April 4 Broadcast Start Date

A new trailer and key visual for the rakugo-themed TV anime Akane-banashi have been released. The former includes a preview of the newly announced opening song “HITOTARASHI” by Kuwata Keisuke.

It was also revealed that the show will begin airing on April 4, and that the Akane-banashi Global YouTube channel will upload episodes for North American and Latin American viewers after their broadcast.

Akane-banashi is based on the Shueisha-published manga written by Yuki Suenaga and drawn by Takamasa Moue. Manga Plus describes the manga as such:

Rakugo–the ultimate form of storytelling, where everything in a story is expressed with just your body and words. Shinta and his daughter Akane have been seduced by this wonderful form of classical entertainment. Having observed her father strive to pass the shin’uchi rakugo test, Akane will take her own steps into this unique world!

The manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2022 and has 20 volumes as of January 2026. It was a finalist of the 47th Kodansha Manga Award’s Shonen category and placed second at Manga Taisho 2023.

The Akane-Banashi anime will have its world premiere at New York’s Japan Society on April 1. There will be later be another screening at Anime Boston on April 4.
