AIADMK IT Wing calls TVK chief Vijay narcissistic

The AIADMK IT Wing on Sunday (January 25, 2026) launched a sharp attack on actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam founder Vijay over his criticism of the AIADMK being a “corrupt party”.

It said his “narcissistic behaviour” in handling and responding to the stampede at his rally in Karur was a “danger in politics”.

In a social media post, written in the form of a letter addressed to the “landlord of Panaiyur” (as Mr. Vijay’s critics describe him), it questioned his claims of being a clean, non-corrupt individual. “Corruption is the act of earning money illegally. By that definition, you — actor Vijay — who repeatedly sold tickets [for his movies] illegally in the black market and earned crores of rupees through it are, in fact, the most corrupt individual,” it said.

Reacting to Mr. Vijay’s claim that the AIADMK was a slave to the Central government, it said, “Being a slave to the Central government has never been part of the AIADMK’s history. Whenever the State’s welfare and rights were challenged, our great movement had always fought for Tamil Nadu’s rights and secured benefits for its people. That is history. Shall we name the film for whose release you stood with folded hands, waiting for five hours, at the then Chief Minister’s [Jayalalithaa] residence? Or will you name the Chief Minister [Edappadi K. Palaniswami] who helped you without expecting anything in return [during the release of the film Master]?”

“Bowing before centres of power to increase one’s income through undue influence also falls in the same category,” the statement said, questioning why former AIADMK Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan was seated next to him on the stage. “After branding AIADMK’s rule as corrupt, is it your definition of ‘pure politics’ to seat Mr. Sengottaiyan — who was the Education Minister during that very regime — right beside you and appoint him as a coordinator [of the TVK’s administrative committee]? Aren’t you also one of the reasons for the death of 41 people in Karur? Instead of atoning for it, out of fear over what cases might come your way, didn’t you hide at Panaiyur for over 72 days and keep your party office shut for 15 days?”

The statement also criticised Mr. Vijay’s decision to bring the relatives of the stampede victims to Chennai and offer them condolences. “Without going to Karur to wipe [their] tears, with tears induced by glycerin, holding photographs, conducting token condolence meetings, and without even a shred of guilt, turning even that event into self-promotion — this narcissistic behaviour is a dangerous sign in politics,” it said.
