Fresh off defeating the Philippines in the opening game of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, the Matildas now turn their attention to a clash with Iran on Thursday night.

Sam Kerr’s first international goal in 28 months proved to be the difference in Perth on Sunday night as Joe Montemurro’s side got their campaign off and running with a win.

Albeit only 1-0 on the night, the Matildas were seldom troubled by their opponents at Perth Stadium in a game where they dominated from start to finish.

Conversely, Iran were convincingly beaten 3-0 by South Korea on Monday night in their first game of the competition.

So with that in mind, should Matildas boss Montemurro look to ring the changes for the clash at Robina Stadium on Thursday?

That was a hot topic on this week’s episode of Dub Zone – hosted by former Matildas defender Amy Duggan and Ninja A-League stars Grace Maher and Karly Roestbakken.

“I think (the) back line stays the same. I think that’s actually really important to build some consistency as the tournament goes on,” said Melbourne Victory ace Maher.

“I would like to see a change or two in the midfield. I thought (Katrina) Gorry had quite a quiet night. You’ve obviously got Kyra Cooney-Cross, still waiting to see whether she comes back into the play, maybe off the bench.

“Mary Fowler, as we mentioned. Then I think you can be looking at giving a bit of an opportunity to Kahli Johnson, Remy Siemsen and Michelle Heyman in this match as well.

“So maybe mixing up that front line would be really interesting, too.”

Roestbakken added: “I definitely would love to see Holly (McNamara). I think even in last night’s game, she would have been a great player to bring on.

“She provides a lot of energy, and we all know how quick she is as well.

“We’re a bit undecided about Kyra, what’s going to happen, but I think having her in that (number) six role in that midfield, she is pivotal in this Matilda’s team.
