Adelaide weather forecast for Wednesday April 8th and the days ahead

Adelaide is heading into a wet and cooler few days as Gather Round weekend approaches, with showers, a risk of thunderstorms and a gusty change set to sweep across the city before calmer autumn weather returns early next week.

The middle of the week looks unsettled across Adelaide, with today staying cloudy and damp, and showers likely through the morning and afternoon. There’s also the chance of a thunderstorm during the day, which could bring brief heavier bursts of rain. Temperatures will stay fairly mild, reaching 23 degrees in the city, with easterly winds shifting around to the north to northeasterly by later in the morning.

Tomorrow keeps the showery pattern going. Adelaide is set for a partly cloudy day with more showers likely and the risk of a morning thunderstorm, before winds strengthen and swing around from the north and northwest to a brisk west to northwesterly flow. The maximum will again reach 23 degrees, though conditions may feel quite different as the day wears on with stronger winds and the approach of a cold front.

By Friday, that cooler change will be firmly in place. Adelaide can expect a cloudy day, frequent showers and noticeably colder conditions, with the top dropping to just 19 degrees after an overnight low of 14. Westerly winds of 25 to 40 km/h will add to the chill before easing slightly and turning southwesterly during the evening.

Saturday stays on the cool side, with clouds lingering and a medium chance of a shower, most likely in the morning. The city is forecast to reach only 18 degrees after a low of 11, with southwesterly winds gradually turning southerly into the evening. While the rain should be lighter and more scattered than earlier in the week, it will still feel brisk, especially around the coast.

Sunday brings a slight improvement, although Adelaide won’t shake the cloud completely. A mostly cloudy day is expected with only a slight chance of a shower, and temperatures nudging up to 19 degrees. South to southwesterly winds will keep things cool, but it should be a quieter day overall.

The start of next week looks much more settled. Monday is forecast to be partly cloudy with light winds and a top of 20 degrees, offering a welcome break after several grey days. By Tuesday, sunshine returns more confidently, with mostly sunny skies, light winds and a warmer maximum of 23 degrees. After a run of wet and windy weather, that should feel like a much more classic Adelaide autumn day.

Across regional South Australia, the broader pattern is being driven by an upper trough followed by a strong cold front. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to spread over the agricultural area and the far south of the pastoral districts through Wednesday, before increasing on Thursday, particularly during the afternoon and evening. Northern and western parts of the state will stay warmer for longer, while western coastal districts cool off more quickly once the front moves through. By Friday and Saturday, showers will be focused across the southern agricultural area, coasts and parts of the West Coast, with colder southwesterly to southerly winds making conditions feel much cooler. Some parts of the agricultural area could see 10 to 40mm, mostly from thunderstorms, while flood impacts continue well inland along key river systems.

Happy Wednesday, stay dry!
