Adelaide is heading into some changing weather this week, with extreme heat, elevated fire danger and a midweek change set to briefly cool temperatures before summer conditions quickly reassert themselves across the city.
Today, Adelaide will see clear skies, with temperatures peaking at 35 degrees. Winds will shift throughout the day, beginning east to southeasterly before turning northwest to southwesterly by late morning and easing into the evening. Fire danger is rated high in the Mount Lofty Ranges, while UV levels are forecast to reach an extreme index of 12.
Conditions ease slightly tomorrow, as a trough and cold front move across southern South Australia. Adelaide is forecast to see a maximum of 31 degrees with a medium chance of showers developing later in the day and into the evening. Rainfall totals are expected to remain light, generally between 0 and 3 millimetres.
Thursday will see cooler temperatures, with the minimum down to 13 degrees and a mild daytime maximum of just 23 degrees. Partly cloudy skies and strong southerly winds will dominate, creating a cooler and blustery feel across the metropolitan area before winds gradually ease later in the day.
Friday is forecast to be sunny with a top of 27 degrees, before temperatures rise steadily through the weekend. Saturday will reach 31 degrees under clear skies, followed by a hotter Sunday with a maximum of 34 degrees. By Monday, the temperature is set to climb once again to around 35 degrees, continuing a run of dry and sunny conditions.
Across the rest of South Australia, more unsettled weather is unfolding, particularly in northern and western districts. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to affect large parts of the state through Wednesday, with the potential for severe storms and heavy rainfall in far northern regions. Cumulative rainfall totals by the end of Friday may reach 50 to 100 millimetres in isolated parts of the North East Pastoral district, while agricultural areas are expected to see relatively modest falls.
Strong wind warnings are in place for the Far West Coast, Upper and Lower West Coast, Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent on Wednesday. Boaters and coastal users are urged to monitor local marine forecasts closely.
Happy Tuesday!
