Adelaide weather forecast for Thursday March 12th and the days ahead

Adelaide’s cooler midweek weather is set to prepare us for a much warmer and mostly sunny weekend, with temperatures climbing back above 30 degrees before a brief return of showers early next week.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, a ridge of high pressure is building across southern South Australia behind a trough over the north, helping stabilise conditions across the state. The ridge is expected to shift south over the Southern Ocean later this week and remain there through the weekend, bringing clearer skies and a steady warming trend for Adelaide.

Today, Adelaide will remain cloudy with a maximum of 23 degrees. There is a slight chance of a shower about the hills and southern suburbs, while most other areas are expected to remain dry. Winds will be southerly at 15 to 25 km/h, increasing to 20 to 30 km/h in the early afternoon before turning southeasterly during the evening. The UV Index is forecast to reach 9, rated Very High, with sun protection recommended between 9:50am and 4:50pm. Fire danger remains high in the Mount Lofty Ranges.

Tomorrow, conditions improve, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures ranging from a cool morning minimum of 12 degrees to a top of 25 degrees. Southeasterly winds of 20 to 30 km/h will keep conditions comfortable across the metropolitan area.

A warm-up arrives on Saturday, with sunny skies and a maximum of 29 degrees following an overnight low of 14 degrees. Light winds will shift from east to southeasterly during the day before turning southwesterly in the afternoon.

Sunday is expected to be the warmest day of the period so far, reaching 31 degrees under partly cloudy skies after a mild morning low of 17 degrees.

Early next week may bring a brief change, with Monday forecast to reach 26 degrees and a shower or two possible across the city. Conditions are expected to stabilise again by Tuesday, with partly cloudy skies and a maximum of 29 degrees. Temperatures will climb once more into the low 30s by Wednesday, with a forecast top of 31 degrees.

Across the wider state, showers and possible thunderstorms are forecast in the far west over the weekend as a trough moves into western South Australia from inland Western Australia. Most central and eastern districts, including Adelaide, are expected to remain largely dry during this period.

Elevated river levels continue across parts of South Australia’s inland river systems. Authorities say river levels along the Warburton River remain high as floodwaters from the Diamantina River move downstream, while levels along Cooper Creek near Innamincka are slowly rising with further increases expected as upstream flows arrive from Queensland.

Happy Thursday!
