Adelaide is wrapping up the weekend under cloudy skies, with showers and the chance of a thunderstorm today before a return to sunshine and rising temperatures through the week.
For the rest of Sunday, the city is heading for a top of 29 degrees with a high chance of showers, easing later this afternoon and evening. Rainfall totals are expected to sit between 0 and 5mm, with a 70 per cent chance of any rain. There is also the chance of a thunderstorm during the morning and afternoon.
Winds will become west to southwesterly at 20 to 30 km/h around midday before turning south to southeasterly early in the afternoon.
Fire danger is rated moderate in the Mount Lofty Ranges, while there is no rating for the Adelaide Metropolitan area. UV levels are forecast to reach an extreme index of 12, with sun protection recommended from 9:30am to 5:20pm.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, a trough and cold front are moving across the south of the state today, while a tropical low centred over the southeast of the Northern Territory is extending a trough into the northeast of South Australia. That system is expected to remain slow-moving next week, keeping showers and thunderstorms active across parts of the state.
Looking ahead to Monday, Adelaide will return to sunny conditions with a mild minimum of 14 degrees and a top of 29 degrees. Winds will be southeasterly at 15 to 25 km/h, with no rainfall expected and UV levels again reaching an extreme index of 11.
Tuesday will be partly cloudy with a minimum of 17 degrees and a maximum of 30 degrees. Winds will strengthen slightly from the south to southeasterly at 25 to 35 km/h, with just a slight, 5 per cent chance of rain.
Midweek, temperatures continue to climb. Wednesday is forecast to reach 30 degrees under mostly sunny skies, followed by 31 degrees on Thursday with partly cloudy conditions. By Friday, Adelaide is expected to reach 33 degrees with a possible shower, before a shower or two returns on Saturday with a top of 31 degrees.
Strong wind warnings are in place for the Far West Coast, Upper West Coast, Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent.
Further north and east of the state, showers and thunderstorms are expected to persist into the week, particularly across the North East Pastoral district and parts of the Flinders and Riverland.
Happy Sunday!
