Adelaide is in for a mixed and slightly unsettled stretch of weather, with heat holding on through Saturday before showers, storms and a cooler change move across the state on Sunday. A weak ridge is giving way to a trough and cold front sweeping across South Australia, with broader rain and thunderstorm activity expected to develop before easing again early in the week.
For the rest of Saturday, Adelaide is heading for a top of 33°C under partly cloudy skies. There’s a slight chance of a late afternoon or evening shower, with rainfall totals expected to stay under 1mm. Winds will shift from easterly to northwest to southwesterly through the day before easing tonight. Fire danger is rated High in the Mount Lofty Ranges.
Sunday brings a noticeable change. Expect a cooler top of 28°C after a warm 21°C start, with showers likely in the morning and early afternoon. There’s also the chance of thunderstorms during that same period. Rainfall could total between 0 and 10mm in Adelaide, though heavier falls are possible in parts of the state. Winds will swing around to the south later in the day, bringing in fresher air.
By Monday, conditions settle quickly. Adelaide will see a crisp 14°C minimum and a sunny top of 29°C, with no rain expected. Southeasterly winds will keep things comfortable, though UV levels remain high.
Looking further ahead, Tuesday stays warm with a top of 30°C under cloudy skies. Wednesday reaches 29°C with partly cloudy conditions, before temperatures lift again on Thursday and Friday, both forecast to reach 32°C. A possible shower returns on Friday.
Across South Australia, the broader weather system is more active. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to extend statewide on Sunday, with some storms possibly severe and carrying a risk of heavy rainfall. Activity contracts to northern and pastoral districts on Monday before becoming widespread again across the north on Tuesday. Cumulative rainfall totals to the end of Tuesday are forecast to range from 5 to 15mm across much of the state, increasing to 15 to 30mm in the far west and 30 to 60mm across pastoral districts. Isolated totals of 60 to 120mm are possible in the far north.
Marine wind warnings are in place for Sunday, with Strong Wind Warnings current for the Far West Coast, Upper West Coast and Spencer Gulf.
Residents are encouraged to stay across updates, particularly in northern and western districts where heavy rainfall and potential severe thunderstorms may develop.
