Adelaide is heading into a changing week, with a warm weekend, a few showers drifting through, and a much cooler finish by Friday as autumn starts to make itself felt across the city.
Today is shaping up as the pick of the weekend for Adelaide, with mostly sunny skies and a top of 26 degrees. Easterly winds between 20 and 30 km/h will keep things moving, but conditions should stay pleasant across the metro, from Glenelg to Elizabeth. Sunday turns a little more unsettled, with cloud increasing and showers likely from late morning (tip: get your Easter egg hunts in early!) The city is forecast to reach 28 degrees before the rain arrives, and while falls are expected to stay light, it could be a handy reminder to keep the umbrella close if you’re heading out.
Monday settles again quickly, with Adelaide returning to mostly sunny conditions and just a slight chance of a passing shower. It will also be one of the warmer days of the stretch, climbing to 29 degrees before winds swing from north to northeasterly around to the west and southwesterly during the day. That change helps bring cooler air into Tuesday, when a morning shower is possible under partly cloudy skies and the top drops back to 23 degrees.
Midweek brings another lift in temperature. Wednesday is expected to be partly cloudy with the chance of a shower or two and a top of 27 degrees, before a wetter change arrives on Thursday. Showers become more likely then, with cloudy skies and northerly winds turning westerly as Adelaide heads for a top of 26 degrees. By Friday, the coolest day in the seven-day outlook arrives, with showers continuing, fresh southwesterly winds and a maximum of just 18 degrees. After the warmer start to the week, it will feel like a proper seasonal shift by the end of it.
Across South Australia, the broader pattern is also set to shift over the next few days. Saturday remains mostly dry for much of the state, apart from isolated showers in the southwest and the chance of thunderstorms in the far southwest. The north and west will stay warmer than average, while the southeast sits closer to seasonal conditions. On Sunday, cloud, isolated showers and possible thunderstorms spread across the west and then into the southern agricultural area later in the day, while the far north stays sunny and warm.
By Monday, showers are expected to linger across southern coastal areas and the Lower South East, while northern parts of the state remain mostly sunny. Tuesday keeps that divide in place, with light showers around the southern agricultural area, especially near southern coasts and ranges, while northern districts continue with mostly sunny skies and above-average temperatures. Rainfall totals through to the end of Monday are generally expected to stay low, with less than 2mm for most districts, increasing to 2 to 10mm about southern coasts and the Nullarbor Plain.
For Adelaide’s coastal waters, conditions look relatively calm through the first half of the week. Seas are forecast to remain below 1 metre, with light swell and generally manageable winds, though showers are likely over metropolitan waters on Sunday.
