Adelaide weather forecast for Monday December 22nd and the days ahead

Adelaide is heading into a cooler and more comfortable stretch of weather over the coming week, with mild daytime temperatures, cooler nights and mostly dry conditions through Christmas, before summer heat ramps up again toward the weekend, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

The rest of Monday is shaping up to be calm and relatively mild, with partly cloudy skies and a top of 23 degrees. Winds will blow from the southwest at 15 to 25 kilometres per hour, helping keep temperatures below average. Rain is unlikely, with just a 10 per cent chance forecast. Despite the cooler conditions, sun protection remains essential, with the UV Index predicted to reach an extreme level of 12.

Tuesday continues the settled pattern, starting with a cool overnight minimum of 14 degrees and reaching a high of 23. Cloud will gradually clear during the day, with only a slight chance of a shower early in the morning, mainly about the northern suburbs. Winds will turn southerly in the afternoon, freshening to 20 to 30 kilometres per hour.

Midweek remains comfortable and mostly dry. Wednesday will see partly cloudy skies and a pleasant top of 25 degrees after a cool morning low of 12. Winds will strengthen during the day before easing later in the afternoon, with very little chance of rain.

Christmas Day looks relaxed and mild, with cloud clearing and temperatures reaching around 25 degrees. From there, conditions begin to warm more noticeably. Friday is forecast to be sunny with a top of 29 degrees, before temperatures surge over the weekend. Saturday is expected to reach 34 degrees, with Sunday shaping up to be the hottest day of the week, peaking at around 37 degrees under sunny skies.

Across the state, a ridge of high pressure will dominate weather conditions through to Thursday, keeping rainfall minimal across most regions. Light coastal showers are possible at times, but cumulative totals are expected to remain low. Fire danger ratings remain moderate for the Mount Lofty Ranges, with no rating currently issued for the Adelaide Metropolitan area. Strong wind warnings remain in place for parts of the Spencer Gulf on Tuesday, particularly for marine areas.Adelaide weather forecast for Sunday December 21st and the days ahead
