Adelaide weather forecast for Monday April 6 and the days ahead

Adelaide is in for a cooler, wetter stretch this week, with showers building from midweek before a brisk change drops temperatures sharply heading into the weekend. After a warm start to Monday, the city’s forecast turns increasingly unsettled, and it’s shaping up to be one of those April weeks where layers and umbrellas will both get a workout.

For Adelaide, Monday begins fairly mild with partly cloudy skies and a top of 27 degrees, though there’s a medium chance of a shower developing by evening. Winds will shift through the day, starting light before turning north to northwesterly, then swinging west to southwesterly by midday, bringing a fresher feel later on. Tuesday looks cooler, with a top of 22 degrees and just a slight chance of an early shower before conditions settle into a partly cloudy afternoon.

By Wednesday, showers become much more likely across the city, with Adelaide heading for a top of 23 degrees under partly cloudy skies and light winds. There’s up to 7mm possible, so it may be one to keep the wet-weather plan handy. Thursday is expected to be the wettest day of the city forecast, with a very high chance of showers, possible morning thunderstorms and rainfall of 1 to 10mm. Temperatures will climb to 25 degrees before winds strengthen and turn from northerly to west to northwesterly during the day, marking the start of a more forceful change.

That colder change really arrives on Friday, when Adelaide drops to a top of just 19 degrees with showers continuing and westerly winds reaching 25 to 35 km/h before tending southwesterly later. Saturday stays on the cool side with a maximum of 18 degrees and a medium chance of a morning shower under cloudy skies, while southerly winds keep things feeling crisp. Sunday looks similar again, with plenty of cloud, just a slight chance of a shower and a cool top of 18 degrees. After the warmer weather at the start of the week, Adelaide residents can expect a noticeable autumn switch by the end of it.

Across regional South Australia, the picture is more varied. Monday brings isolated showers through central and eastern parts early, before showers spread across agricultural districts and possible thunderstorms develop in the far west during the afternoon. Temperatures are generally above to well above average, especially away from the coast, before a west to southwesterly change pushes inland. On Tuesday and Wednesday, showers are expected to linger around the southern agricultural area, particularly along windward coasts and ranges, while cloud, isolated showers and possible thunderstorms move across the west and parts of the north. The far north should stay mostly sunny early in the period and remain warmer than southern districts.

By Thursday, conditions ramp up again with isolated showers and thunderstorms across the agricultural area and south of the pastoral districts, increasing later in the day as a stronger front approaches. Rainfall totals are generally expected to stay light, but the Bureau says isolated thunderstorm falls of 10 to 30mm are possible. Coastal areas in the west and south can also expect windy conditions as the change moves through. Further north and northeast, temperatures are forecast to climb well above average before the cooler air reaches southern parts of the state.
