Adelaide will see a dramatic turn in the weather this weekend as the heat gives way to cooler, cloudier conditions across the city and much of South Australia.
Today, Adelaide will see a mostly sunny 32 degrees, as northerly winds shift west to southwesterly through the morning. While the temperature is lower than earlier in the week, conditions remain dangerous across the state, with Extreme fire danger declared for the Mount Lofty Ranges and Moderate for the metropolitan area. UV levels are expected to reach an extreme rating of 14, meaning sun protection is essential throughout the day.
The heat and wind combination has prompted widespread fire weather warnings across South Australia, with authorities warning of very hot, dry conditions, the risk of dry lightning, and damaging wind gusts ahead of a cold front pushing eastwards.
By Saturday, Adelaide will see a noticeable cool change. Cloudy skies are forecast with a much milder top of 23 degrees following an overnight low of 15 degrees. Fresh south to southwesterly winds will dominate, with only a slight chance of light showers about the hills and southern suburbs. Despite the cooler air, UV levels will remain high, with sun protection still advised.
Sunday continues the cooler trend, with partly cloudy skies and a comfortable top of 25 degrees. Winds will ease slightly, creating a more settled feel across the city as the high-pressure system establishes itself south of the Bight.
Conditions will warm again early next week, but without the extremes. Monday is expected to be sunny with a top of 29 degrees, climbing to 30 degrees on Tuesday under mostly sunny skies. By Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures ease once more into the high-20s, with partly cloudy conditions rounding out a far more manageable stretch of summer weather.
