Adelaide is in for a classic summer stretch, with wall-to-wall sunshine and climbing temperatures set to dominate the days ahead before a noticeable cool change arrives mid-week. If you’re looking for something to do today, here’s what’s on and what’s open.
For the rest of Friday, the city will enjoy a sunny finish with a top of 28 degrees. Winds will be fresh at times, blowing southeasterly at 25 to 40 km/h, keeping conditions dry and clear. There’s no chance of rain, but fire danger remains High in the Mount Lofty Ranges, so care is advised in exposed areas.
Saturday 27 December continues the sunny theme, with temperatures rising to 31 degrees after a cool morning low of 15 degrees. Light to moderate winds will shift through the day, with a south to southeasterly change developing during the afternoon and evening. Rain remains off the cards.
Heat builds further on Sunday 28 December, when Adelaide can expect a hot and sunny day with a maximum of 35 degrees. Winds will start from the east to northeast before turning south to southwesterly during the day, offering some late relief. Conditions stay dry across the metro area.
The hottest day of the period looks set to be Monday 29 December, with temperatures soaring to around 38 degrees under sunny skies. While Adelaide itself should remain dry, a trough moving across the state may trigger showers or thunderstorms well to the west. Fire weather conditions are likely to be elevated.
A welcome cool change arrives on Tuesday 30 December, bringing cloudier conditions and a much lower maximum of 27 degrees. While it stays mostly dry for Adelaide, the shift will be noticeable after several days of intense heat.
Conditions ease further on Wednesday 31 December, with a partly cloudy day and a top of 22 degrees, before New Year’s Day on Thursday delivers pleasant summer weather, reaching 25 degrees with light winds and partial cloud.
Statewide, a high-pressure system is keeping things settled through the weekend, before a cold front and trough influence conditions early next week. Marine users should note Strong Wind Warnings for the Upper South East Coast and Lower South East Coast today, and Far West Coast tomorrow, while sheep graziers in the Mount Lofty Ranges are advised of cold and windy conditions early Friday morning.
It’s a great few days to enjoy the outdoors early and late in the day, stay sun-smart, and plan ahead for Monday’s extreme heat before cooler air settles in to close out 2025.
