Adelaide tram commuters will want to take note, as your usual ride will be off the rails for five days over the Easter period. From Thursday, April 2nd to Monday, April 6th, trams will not operate between Moseley Square and the Entertainment Centre, Botanic Gardens, and Festival Plaza stops while crews complete critical works as part of the Tram Grade Separation Projects.
The closure is aimed at finalising upgrades, including the installation of safety screens on the new South Road overpass, and essential track maintenance. Adelaide Metro assures riders that these improvements are crucial for safer, smoother tram travel in the future.
Throughout the break, substitute buses will run along all tram routes to keep commuters moving. Adelaide Metro is also ramping up services on Friday, April 3rd to accommodate the city’s busy sports calendar, including the AFL clash between Adelaide and Fremantle at Adelaide Oval, and the two A-League soccer matches at Coopers Stadium.
The tram lines are expected to resume normal operations from the first service on Tuesday, April 7th, just in time for the week ahead. While five days of no trams might sound inconvenient, the upgrades are part of a larger plan to modernise Adelaide’s tram network and improve safety for everyone.
Adelaide Metro has thanked commuters for their patience, noting that careful planning has gone into minimising the impact of the closure. For those planning trips during the Easter break, checking timetables and alternative bus routes in advance is highly recommended.
As the tram returns back on the 7th, Adelaide riders can look forward to a smoother, safer, and more efficient tram network.
