A Witch in Mongolia, Candy Caries & More Screen at 2026 Annecy Festival

A select slate of TV anime series will be screened at 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival in Annecy, France, which will run from June 21, 2026 to June 27, 2026. 

The first episode of Sparks of Tomorrow will be screened in competition under Annecy Festival’s TV Films category, along with other anime series such as Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia, Candy Caries, and Takopi’s Original Sin.

In addition, the festival’s Graduation Films category will feature screenings of two animated short films from Japan’s Tokyo University of the Arts. They include Yini Guo‘s Plankton α and Sam Kuwa‘s So He Grabbed the Knife

Yasuhiro Aoki’s ChaO anime film won the Jury Award in the Feature Film category at the 2025 Annecy Festival. Ryo Orikasa‘s The Graffiti won the Off-Limits Award for the Short Film category and Masataka Kihara‘s Q won the Lotte Reiniger Award in the Graduation Films category.

Baku Kinoshita’s The Last Blossom was also screened in competition for the Feature Film category at last year’s festival. The Star Wars Visions episode “Black,” directed by Shinya Ohira, competed in the Short Films category, along with Yoriko Mizushiri’s French-Japanese co-produced Ordinary Life animated short. 

All You Need Is Kill, Mononoke The Movie: Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage, and Nightmare Bugs were also part of Annecy Festival’s 2025 Midnight Specials category.
