Some athletes are born into wealth— afforded every opportunity from the start of their athletic careers right to their ascension to the level of professional sport. And while WhiteHall Pennsylvania’s Saquon Barkley had more than enough talent to allow him to come through a brick wall—growing up — he and his family struggled financially for a period of time.

Now that he is one of the top running backs in the NFL and one of the best that the Eagles has ever seen — he still emphasizes the importance of supporting the underprivileged. During one of the coldest winters in nearly two decades around Philadelphia — Barkley went into action — with a partnership with the Michael Ann & Saquon Barkley Hope Foundation to provide new bedding and mattresses to some fifty families who need them at The Phield House before the winter started. Then — that very same Michael Ann & Saquon Barkley Hope Foundation played host to a Holiday Toy Drive at Chickie-N-Pete’s in South Philadelphia.

During the past few months — during a Pennsylvania andNew Jersey blood shortage — Eagles running back for the Saquon Barkley has stepped up and positively impacted the blood donation efforts in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania areaaccording to the American Red Cross.

Last offseason — the Eagles extended their Pro Bowl running back for another two years for $41.2 million. The new contract included $36 million of guaranteed money and an additional attainable $15 million if certain milestones are met.

The contract follows a deal that will keep Barkley in Philadelphia as an Eagle until he is 31. The Eagles originally signed Saquon Barkley last March to a three-year, $37.75 million deal after the New York Giants allowed their star running back to test free agency during the last NFL offseason. At that point — he was the fourth highest-paid running back in the NFL behind Jonathon Taylor, Alvin Kamara, and Christian McCaffrey.

It’s a return piece of love from one of Pennsylvania’s sons who not only made it — but made it to the NFL. He’s not just a top running back in the NFL — but in the world.
