Heavy Fog Closes 5 Motorways

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has issued a travel advisory over the dense fog that has forced the closure of five major motorways across Punjab and adjoining regions, disrupting travel.

According to the latest update, the following sections have been shut down due to dangerously low visibility:

M-2 From Thokaz Niaz Baig to Chakri M-3 From Faizpur to Rajana M-4 From Pindi Bhattian to Shorkot M-11 From Lahore to Sambrial M-14 From Kharpa to Isa Khel

NHMP officials said the closures were implemented as a precautionary measure after thick fog reduced visibility to unsafe levels, making driving extremely hazardous.

Dense winter fog is a recurring problem in Punjab, often leading to temporary shutdowns of key highways to prevent accidents. Past traffic data shows that fog-related conditions contribute to a significant number of road mishaps each year, especially during the early morning and late-night hours.

As of Thursday evening, the affected motorway sections remained closed, with authorities urging commuters to stay updated through official NHMP channels. Travelers have been advised to delay their journeys, use alternative routes where possible, and prefer daytime travel when visibility improves.

Motorists are also being reminded to use fog lights, maintain safe speeds, and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions normalize.
