The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) has closed seven motorways across Punjab and Sindh due to dense fog, warning motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and check updates before heading out.
According to the latest situation shared by NHMP, the following sections are currently closed:
M-1 Peshawar to Rashakai M-2 Thokar Niaz Baig to Chakri M-3 Faizpur to Darkhana M-4 Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakem, and Sher Shah to Shams Kot M-5 Rohri to Rahim Yar Khan M-11 Lahore to Sambrial M-14 Daud Khel to Isa Khel
NHMP said the closures were imposed as a precaution because fog has significantly reduced visibility on key routes, increasing the risk of serious crashes. Dense fog is a recurring winter hazard in parts of Punjab and Sindh, often bringing visibility down to extremely low levels and leading to frequent accidents during the season.
Officials have advised drivers to avoid high speed, maintain safe distance, and postpone travel until conditions improve. Motorists are also urged to stay updated through NHMP’s 1195 helpline for the latest information on reopening and route advisories.
While some stretches have reportedly seen partial movement restored by early January 14, several major links, including M-2, M-3, M-4, and M-11, remain affected, making it important for commuters and cargo traffic to plan alternate routes where possible.
