The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) organised a one-day special capacity-building training programme for its sanitation workers (pourakarmikas) under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 on January 13.
The programme was held at the State Institute of Urban Development (SIUD) premises on Lalitha Mahal Road. The training was aimed at creating awareness among sanitation workers about personal and social hygiene and highlighting the importance of their role in maintaining cleanliness in the city.
In a note, the MCC stated that the initiative is expected to enhance the expertise of sanitation workers and contribute to making Mysuru a healthier and model city. The workshop also sought to equip workers with communication skills to help improve the quality of services.
The training programme was conducted by the All India Institute of Local Self Governance, Bengaluru.
Inaugurating the workshop, Regional Commissioner and MCC Administrator Nitesh Patil appreciated the sanitation workers for their selfless service in keeping the city clean. He said their contribution has played a crucial role in Mysuru earlier earning the tag of being the cleanest city and expressed confidence that with continued efforts, the city can regain its former glory.
Mr. Patil also announced that the MCC will soon provide high-quality protective gear, including shoes, gloves and other safety equipment, to sanitation workers.
Senior MCC officials, zonal commissioners, health officers, assistant executive engineers (environment), environmental engineers and health inspectors were present.
