A new Revue Starlight anime sequel has been announced to be in production. A video teases that “The road must go on, reaching beyond the light.”
Kinema Citrus is once again the animation production studio, although it’s unknown if director Tomohiro Furukawa, who has been attached to the mysterious Love Cobra project since December 2021, or assistant director (and also revue costume designer, weapon designer, and more) Takushi Koide, who’s directing this year’s Goodbye, Lara anime, are returning.
More details about the new anime will be released in the future.
The previous Revue Starlight (Shojo Kageki Revue Starlight) anime shows were a 2018 TV series, a 2020 compilation movie, and the 2021 theatrical sequel Revue Starlight the Movie. They followed a group of girls who are undergoing theater training, with surrealistic imagery and swordfights mixed in. The anime belong to a multimedia franchise that includes games like the Revue Starlight El Dorado visual novel and the Shojo Kageki Revue Starlight -Re LIVE- mobile game and musicals.
Bushiroad, Nelke Planning, and Kinema Citrus are credited with the franchise’s creation. Hiroyuki Saita (Cardfight!! Vanguard D Series co-character designer) was the character designer for the previous anime.
The synopsis for the 2018 Revue Starlight anime reads:
Childhood friends Karen and Hikari promised that they would one day become the next theatrical stars. Years later, the two finally have their chance during a mysterious audition, but they are not the only ones who have trained for this moment.
