PSL Franchise Likely to Be Rebranded Under New Owners

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, Multan Sultans, could be heading for a major identity change as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) moves closer to selling the team.

According to reports, if the Multan-based franchise is sold to new owners, instead of Ali Tareen, they are free to rename the franchise. PCB has made it clear that keeping the name “Multan Sultans” is not mandatory.

This opens the door to a full rebrand: new name, new logo, and a refreshed commercial identity, depending on what the eventual buyer wants to build.

Recent reporting suggests the PCB is now looking to auction the Multan Sultans before PSL 11, rather than waiting for a later window. The board is expected to issue an official advertisement to invite eligible bidders, and the sale is likely to follow the same bidding framework used in the recent expansion auctions.

Multan, unlike an expansion side, already has a PSL track record and a built-in fan base, which increases its commercial appeal in a sale setting.

The timing matters because PSL 11 preparations are already moving. The players’ draft for the upcoming season is expected to take place around January 30, meaning franchises need clarity on decision-making and planning sooner rather than later.

A sale before the season would also help settle the franchise’s structure, whether the PCB continues to run operations temporarily or a new owner steps in with a fresh plan.

Multan’s situation has remained unsettled since the end of Ali Tareen’s ownership spell, with the PCB stepping in to ensure the franchise stays operational while the next phase is decided.

If the auction happens on that accelerated timeline, Multan could enter the next PSL cycle under new ownership, and potentially under a different name.
