Samina Ahmed is a senior PTV actress who has been working in the entertainment industry for around 50 years. She gained recognition through her famous PTV classics. Her most popular shows include Family Front, Waris, Aahat, Kis Say Kahoon, Aangan, Baby Baji, Ghisi Pitti Mohabbat, Suno Chanda, the Barat series, and others. Samina Ahmad’s current blockbuster show was the saas-bahu drama Baby Baji, which broke records of popularity, and its death sequence received huge acclaim.
Recently, Samina Ahmed appeared on Bushra Ansari’s daughter Nariman Ansari’s YouTube show Begum Begums, which was recorded in Canada. In the show, Samina Ahmad spoke in favour of Pakistani saas-bahu dramas.
Talking about the criticism of saas-bahu dramas, Samina Ahmed said, “You must have heard the criticism about our Pakistani dramas—what kind of stupid saas-bahu shows these are. This criticism is not from the viewers, because the audience watches our dramas. The people within our industry say that these dramas are based on household issues and saas-bahu conflicts and offer nothing. But in my opinion, these dramas have empowered women. Now women have come into acting, and dramas are perceived differently from how they were perceived in the past. Previously, I used to be the only woman on set—set boys, spot boys, makeup staff, wardrobe staff, and technicians were all male. Now the makeup room has a lady who does the makeup of all actors, including men. There are girls in the wardrobe department; they are producers, directors, and co-actors. Your cast has a majority of women. This is the biggest difference, and in my opinion, it is positive. Whatever stories we tell are real stories. Don’t women face cruelty? Don’t they stand up for themselves? All these stories are real. Not everything on TV is fiction.” Watch here:
