Former Multan Sultans Captain Likely to Get Picked by This Franchise

Mohammad Rizwan could quickly become one of the most sought-after names in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) draft if Multan Sultans decide to move on from him, with Sialkot emerging as a strong contender to land the former Sultans captain.

Sources close to the PSL draft discussions suggest Sialkot may consider Rizwan as captain in the scenario where he is released by Multan. The new franchise is expected to prioritize an established Pakistan international for the job as it builds its core for PSL 11.

On the Sialkot side, the management is also exploring possible additions to its backroom staff. There are reports that the franchise could approach Azhar Mahmood for a coaching role, though no official confirmation has been made yet, and the move remains speculative for now.

What is clear, however, is the direction Sialkot wants to take with leadership. Franchise owner Hamza Majeed has stated that the team’s captain will be from either Pakistan or Australia, narrowing the pool of candidates and making a Pakistan stalwart like Rizwan an even more realistic option if he becomes available.

Rizwan’s situation at Multan has also been a talking point since he stepped down as captain after the Pakistan Cricket Board took over the franchise’s operations following Ali Tareen’s departure. Since then, there have been indications that the PCB is weighing other leadership options for Multan, with Salman Ali Agha reportedly being discussed as a potential skipper going forward.

Meanwhile, Sialkot’s franchise planning is moving fast off the field. The ownership group has said the official team name, team president, and logo will be revealed within days, as the new PSL side begins shaping its identity ahead of the expanded 2026 season
