A main visual has been revealed for the A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans TV anime series, featuring many of the show’s characters. The anime began broadcasting in Japan on January 10, 2026. Crunchyroll is streaming the series in select countries and territories worldwide.

Akira Iwanaga (The Morose Mononokean Season 1) is directing the anime series, with Katsuhiko Takayama (The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash) as series composer and Maiko Okada (Mother Of The Goddess’ Dormitory) as character designer. Asread is handling the animation production.

The light novel series is written by Nijisanji VTuber Natsume Kurusu and illustrated by Sai Izumi (both are given the original character designer credit). It was published by Media Factory’s MF Bunko J imprint on February 25, 2022 and has released four volumes as of February 2025.
A manga adaptation by Atsu Benino was published from August 2022 to July 2025.

Yen Press licensed the light novel series and manga for English release. It describes the main synopsis of the light novels as:
I’m Rei Hitoma, a self-professed misanthrope thanks to some past trauma. Just when I thought my new teaching job in the mountains would provide a chill, rejuvenating environment, it turns out that this school is actually for demi-humans who want to become full-fledged human beings! There’s a mermaid, a werewolf, a rabbit, and a bird…all of whom are now my charges. It’s my duty to teach them about humankind—and maybe in the process, I’ll learn a few things myself. This isn’t an alternate world or a case of reincarnation. It’s just the story of a teacher at a somewhat peculiar school and his students who are striving to become human.
