Babar Azam sparked a wave of online buzz after sharing a warm moment with an Indian fan during the Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Sixers clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Following the Big Bash League (BBL) match, Babar spent time near the boundary signing autographs and greeting supporters. Among the crowd was an Indian girl wearing a Team India jersey, holding a poster of Babar and requesting both an autograph and a selfie.
Babar Azam obliged without hesitation, posing for the photo and signing for her. The interaction quickly went viral across social media.
The clip drew praise from fans who highlighted Babar’s calm and respectful demeanor, pointing out that even amid intense India-Pakistan cricket rivalries online, his popularity clearly stretches across borders.
On the cricketing side, Sydney Sixers secured a six-wicket win over Melbourne Stars, even though Babar couldn’t make a major impact with the bat.
Babar was dismissed in the seventh over when Stars captain Marcus Stoinis bowled a full delivery that jagged in and beat the bat, trapping the right-hander in front. Stoinis celebrated aggressively, appealing loudly before the umpire raised the finger, and was heard saying: “See you later Babar! See you later, brother!”
Babar, visibly unhappy with his shot choice, briefly spoke with batting partner Josh Philippe and chose not to review the decision. He returned to the pavilion after scoring 14 off 17 balls, with one four.
Babar has had a mixed tournament so far for the Sixers. After seven innings, he has scored 145 runs at an average of 24.16 and a strike rate of 108.20, including two half-centuries.
Still, the Sixers had enough firepower to get the job done, helped by Ben Dwarshuis’s four-wicket haul and Josh Philippe’s steady 35 in the chase.
