Jujutsu Kaisen is based on the manga by Gege Akutami, in which Jujutsu Sorcerers battle Cursed Spirits in modern-day Japan. Viz Media describes the source material as such:
Although Yuji Itadori looks like your average teenager, his immense physical strength is something to behold! Every sports club wants him to join, but Itadori would rather hang out with the school outcasts in the Occult Research Club. One day, the club manages to get their hands on a sealed cursed object. Little do they know the terror they’ll unleash when they break the seal…
The anime began in 2020. The first season ended in early 2021 after 24 episodes and was followed by December 2021’s Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel movie (based on the manga’s four-chapter predecessor). Season 2 aired from July to December 2023, with the latter “Shibuya Incident Arc” starting a few weeks after the initial “Hidden Inventory Arc. 2025 saw the release of Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, a compilation film that also previewed the first two episodes of the current season.
The manga began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018 and ended in 2024. A sequel titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo started this year.
