Kite flyers from Ukraine, Russia, Columbia, to participate in IKF 2026 | Ahmedabad News

Kite flyers from Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Jordan, Australia, Indonesia, among other countries, will take part at the International Kite Festival (IKF) 2026 in Ahmedabad, according to a senior government official.

Among 135 kite flyers from 50 countries at IKF 2026 – which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on January 12 – the highest number of participants are from Chile, Columbia and Republic of Korea, with six kite flyers each.

Other international flyers this time are from Indonesia (5), Israel (5), Russia (3), Algeria, Australia, Egypt, France, Hungary and Italy.

Along with international kite flyers, enthusiasts from across the country will also celebrate Uttarayan in Ahmedabad. In addition, night kite flying will be done on January 13. International and national kite flyers will join in with colourful kites in various sizes and shapes.

“A total of 1,071 kite enthusiasts, including 135 international kite flyers from 50 countries, 65 from 13 states and 871 kite flyers from 16 districts of Gujarat, will participate in the International Kite Festival 2026,” a senior government official told The Indian Express.

The Vallabh Sadan on Sabarmati Riverfront has been transformed into a heritage theme with heritage haveli, ancient bridge showcasing the heritage architectural tradition of Ahmedabad with pols, colorful handicraft market, kite museum, attractive iconic photo wall installations, along with special cultural programmes in the evening. Also, 25 handicraft stalls and 15 food stalls will be operational during this festival to promote local art, handicrafts and cuisine.
