Retired Air Force officer asks sons to vacate house in UP, they get him killed

Five days after a retired Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, police on Thursday said the murder was allegedly plotted by his own sons after he asked them to vacate the house, as he wanted to sell the property.

The victim, Yogesh Kumar (58), a retired employee of the Indian Air Force and a native of UP’s Baghpat district, was gunned down on December 26 while returning to his residence. Two bike-borne assailants allegedly fired two shots at him and also attacked him with an iron pipe. He later died during treatment.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Loni, Siddhartha Gautam said police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and formed a special team to crack the case.

During the investigation, police found that Yogesh had been pressuring his sons, Nitesh and Guddu, to vacate the house as he wanted to sell it. The dispute over the property allegedly escalated into a conspiracy to kill him.

Police said the sons allegedly hired their neighbour Arvind Kumar (32) as a contract killer for Rs 5 lakh. Arvind, along with his brother-in-law Naveen, a constable posted in Kaushambi district, allegedly carried out the shooting.

“The victim’s sons plotted the murder after he asked them to vacate the house. During interrogation, Arvind confessed that he and Naveen fired two shots at Yogesh, causing his death,” ACP Siddhartha Gautam said.

Arvind was arrested on Wednesday evening and produced before the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Ghaziabad on Thursday, which remanded him to 14 days’ judicial custody.

Police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, live cartridges, used cartridges, the iron pipe used in the murder, and a motorcycle from Arvind’s possession. Sections of the Arms Act were added to the case, police said.

Investigators also said that Arvind has a long criminal history, including cases related to murder, the Arms Act, the Gangster Act and fraud.

The victim’s sons Nitesh and Guddu, along with constable Naveen, are currently absconding. Police said teams are conducting raids to arrest them and that further investigation is underway.
