Western Sydney Wanderers head coach Alen Stajcic has confirmed defender Alex Bonetig has likely played his last game for the club.
Reports emerged during the Wanderers’ 1-0 home defeat to Western Sydney rivals Macarthur Bulls that Bonetig was closing in on a move to MLS side Portland Timbers.

Asked for the latest following his side’s sixth loss of the season, Stajcic confirmed that the central defender may well have played his last game in the Red and Black of Western Sydney.
“Yeah, look, there’s there’s been talk of that for the last week or two,” said Stajcic when discussing the rumours suggesting Bonetig would be heading Stateside.
“It’s possible that this is his last game. So that might get finalised in the next few days.
He added: “So we’re not 100% sure yet but that’s definitely possible.”
The 23-year-old has been an ever-present for the club since the start of the 2024-25 campaign and as such, earned a surprise call-up to a Socceroos training camp under head coach Tony Popovic in June 2025.
