Round 10 result
Auckland FC: Match v Sydney FC postponed
Newcastle Jets: 5-4 loss to Macarthur FC (H)
Even with the postponed match in hand, Auckland FC remain on top of the Isuzu UTE A-League table, Steve Corica’s side only having lost the one match so far this season.
Newcastle keep on scoring, but they keep on conceding as well. The Jets equalised three times against Macarthur FC, yet still couldn’t hold on for a result. The pick of their goals was Eli Adams’s perfectly struck long-range free kick, which found the corner of the net for his second goal of the season.
Auckland’s defence has been difficult to get through, but Newcastle do boast the most potent attack to this point of the season.

Western Sydney Wanderers: 3-2 loss to Adelaide United
Macarthur FC: 5-4 win over Newcastle Jets
Western Sydney scored their first goals in a month and were mere minutes away from getting out of Adelaide with a crucial point. Alas, a late winner for Adelaide keeps the Wanderers just one point off the bottom of the table.
Aydan Hammond scored the Wanderers’ first goal since their derby win, before Brandon Borrello’s penalty made it two. Pressure has been mounting on the Wanderers, winless in their last four matches. A win here could release the valve a little.
Macarthur got to be a part of another Newcastle special in Round 10, young Bulls forward Luke Vickery scoring the winner in the very last minute of play.
It was a match for young forwards, with Vickery, Bernardo and Dean Bosnjak all scoring. Harry Sawyer and a contentious own goal finished off the scoring.
Melbourne Victory v Perth Glory

Round 10 result
Melbourne Victory: 5-1 win over Wellington Phoenix (H)
Perth Glory: 3-1 win over Melbourne City (A)
Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory both come into this one full of confidence after dominant wins last weekend.
The Victory took advantage of an out of sorts Wellington Phoenix to grab their third win in a row. Greek striker Nikos Vergos scored a hattrick, while Keegan Jelacic and Santos scored one each in the dominant display.
Santos’ goal could yet prove to be more important than it appeared at the time, being the Brazilian winger’s first for the season.
We won’t look at the stats behind Perth’s win over Melbourne City or their chances against Victory; there’s too much data in the world.
But if Welsh midfielder Tom Lawrence gets the same feeling and emotion as he did last week, Victory are going to have a hard time stopping Perth’s attack.

Brisbane Roar: Match against Central Coast to be played on Wednesday
Wellington Phoenix: 5-1 loss to Melbourne Victory (A)
Brisbane Roar take their league-best defence to Central Coast in the middle of the week, before then heading north of Brisbane to Redcliffe and Kayo Stadium where they’ll host Wellington Phoenix.
With Lucas Herrington’s transfer to Colorado, the Roar will do well to keep up their defensive performances and will now have to look within to replace the talented youngster.
Wellington had a tough night in Melbourne, the hole left in goal by the injured Josh Oluwayemi being exposed as they went down to a rampant Victory.
Wellington manager Giancarlo Italiano backed young goalkeeper Eamonn McCarron in after his debut performance. However after his first start, Italiano now has a choice to make. Does he give McCarron another shot, or does he go with Alby Kelly-Heald?
Melbourne City v Sydney FC

Melbourne City: 3-1 loss to Perth Glory (H)
Sydney FC: Match v Auckland FC postponed
Melbourne City were pulled apart by Perth Glory last week, only able to score one late consolation goal through Andrew Nabbout.
City are now winless in their last three matches, and 2nd placed Sydney will be a difficult opponent to try and turn the tide against. But not impossible, Sydney have had their own struggles of late.
Sydney were left unable to host Auckland last week, let down by the Leichhardt Oval pitch and they were held to nil against Newcastle the week before. With no Joe Lolley, Sydney will be putting faith in striker Victor Campuzano. The Spaniard has two goals and two assists so far this season.
With news in the week dropping that City won’t make striker Max Caputo available for Australia’s AFC U-23 Asian Cup squad, they will be looking to him to produce the goals for them.
Adelaide United v Central Coast Mariners

Round 10 result
Adelaide United: 3-2 win over Western Sydney Wanderers (H)
Central Coast Mariners: Match against Brisbane to be played on Wednesday
Things are quietly coming together nicely at Adelaide United. After a poor run of form, they’ve looked better in attack and have won two in a row.
Their win against Western Sydney Wanderers with a particularly South Australian flavour. Adelaide natives Luka Jovanović, Austin Ayoubi and Johnny Yull all scored, while the assists came from Yaya Dukuly and Craig Goodwin.
Yull’s stoppage time goal was the difference in the 3-2 win.
Bottom of the table Central Coast will first host Brisbane Roar before heading down to Adelaide. Warren Moon’s men haven’t won since November 7th and will be desperate to salvage some points.
