South Australia’s top baby names for 2025 have been revealed

South Australia’s newest arrivals have spoken — and for another year running, tradition is proving hard to beat when it comes to baby names.

Charlotte has once again topped the list as the most popular baby girl name in South Australia for 2025, narrowly holding off Isla by just two registrations. It’s a close contest that reflects how finely balanced naming trends have become, with parents increasingly drawn to classic favourites alongside softer, nature-inspired choices.

For boys, Oliver has continued its remarkable reign, claiming the top spot for the 13th consecutive year. In 2025 alone, 122 baby boys were registered with the name, cementing Oliver’s place as South Australia’s most enduring modern favourite.

Charlotte retained first place with 95 baby girls receiving the name this year, while Isla climbed into second position with 93 registrations. Olivia, a long-time staple, slipped to third place with 76 registrations, followed by Harper and Hazel, which tied on 69. Amelia, Elsie, Violet, Lily, Daisy and Ruby rounded out a diverse and increasingly floral top 10.

On the boys’ side, Noah edged out Henry to claim second place, with 108 registrations compared to Henry’s 105. Leo and Theodore followed closely behind, while Levi, Luca, Charlie, Elijah, Jack and Oscar completed the top tier of names chosen by South Australian families in 2025.

A clear trend emerging this year is the rise of floral-inspired names. Violet and Daisy both surged into the girls’ top 10, climbing dramatically from 22nd and 24th positions respectively in 2024. Their rise places them alongside established favourites like Lily and Hazel, highlighting a growing preference for gentle, nature-led names with timeless appeal.

Minister for Consumer and Business Affairs Andrea Michaels said the results reflect a strong appreciation for tradition, with a modern twist.

“Traditional names remained popular in 2025 and this year, we’ve seen Charlotte – long a favourite of royalty – hold the top spot for South Australian baby girls for the second year running,” she said.

Parents are reminded they have 60 days to register the names of their newborns with Births, Deaths and Marriages. While the lists released this week highlight the most popular names so far, the final top 100 baby names for South Australia in 2025 will be published online next year.
