A new playspace is on the way for Paralowie, with plans for the Mario Drive Reserve to be transformed into a fun, modern destination for families following strong community feedback.
The design comes in response to a local consultation held in September. The new playspace has been shaped by what residents want most, including a safe, inclusive and engaging space where children of different ages and abilities can play, while parents and carers can comfortably spend time together. The planned upgrade blends active play, imagination and nature-based elements into one welcoming community spot.
The new playspace will see equipment designed to keep kids moving and exploring. “Families can expect a mix of fun, active and nature-based elements, including an in-ground trampoline, junior and senior slides, a basket swing, and natural logs and rocks for climbing and imaginative play. The area will also feature picnic shelters, seating and shaded spaces, making it a comfortable spot for parents and carers to relax while children play,” shared the City of Salisbury team. These elements encourage kids to use their senses of touch, sight, hearing and smell, while facilitating an environment for open-ended play that differs each time they visit.
The reserve has been designed with families in mind. Picnic shelters with tables and benches will offer shady spots to escape the sun, plus, with additional seating and park benches, there will be plenty of spots to watch the action. A shade structure will cover the slides during the hottest parts of the day, with new trees planted to deliver even more natural shade as they grow. There will also be a few practical touches, like a bin with a doggy bag dispenser and sealed paths leading directly to the playspace. The site will also include around 2,500 square metres of open kickabout space, giving kids room to run and play.
Located close to other local reserves, including Boardwalk Playground and Greentree Boulevard, the new Mario Drive Reserve playspace will add another valuable option for families in the area.
While the project is currently subject to an active procurement process, residents will be notified ahead of construction commencing. Once complete, this thoughtfully designed playspace will be a great investment in the wellbeing, connection and liveability of the Paralowie community.
