Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam endured another disappointing outing in the ongoing 2025/26 Big Bash League (BBL 15), scoring only two runs for the Sydney Sixers in their clash against Melbourne Stars at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Opening the innings, Babar was undone by left-arm seamer Sam Curran, whose nagging outswingers repeatedly beat the right-hander’s outside edge.
After playing and missing at several deliveries that carried through to the wicketkeeper, Babar finally nicked a sharply seaming ball towards the slip cordon, where Glenn Maxwell completed a straightforward catch. The former Pakistan captain faced seven balls in his short stay.
The low score adds to a difficult start to Babar’s maiden BBL campaign. He was dismissed for 2 off 5 balls in his first appearance against Perth Scorchers and followed it with 9 off 11 deliveries against Adelaide Strikers, as the Sixers lost both matches.
He briefly rediscovered his touch in his third game, compiling a fluent 58 off 42 balls with five fours and two sixes to notch his first BBL half-century and guide Sydney to their first victory of the season.
Babar’s inconsistent returns in Australia mirror his recent international form. The 31-year-old only returned to T20I cricket this year after a gap stretching back to December 2024, when he was selected for the home series against South Africa. His comeback innings ended without a run, though he recovered somewhat with scores of 11 and 68 in the following matches.
In the subsequent T20I tri-series featuring Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, Babar has managed 127 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 112.38, registering one fifty.
Despite flashes of his trademark class, both his international and BBL numbers suggest he is still searching for the consistency that once made him one of the most reliable top-order batters in world cricket.
