Looking for a seriously good steak this summer? You’re in luck. TimeOut has just revealed its list of the ten best places to eat steak in South Australia, and it’s a mix of long-time favourites, new additions and destination dining spots that know exactly how to treat a great cut of beef.
Arkhé
Taking out the top spot is Norwood fave, Arkhé. Coming from the mind of Chef Jake Kellie, this moody Parade spot is known for its use of fire and open-kitchen style. While dining at Arkhé, you can get up close with the kitchen, the flames and the fantastic steaks they’re making. The menu includes Mayura Station 9+ Wagyu and premium steaks served by the kilo.
Next up was an Adelaide Hills location, bringing an elevated pub twist to your classic steak. The Oakbank Hotel is known for its eye fillet, ribeye, and rump steaks, all sourced from top South Australian producers. They pair these with top-notch, award-winning local wines, making for the perfect country lunch.
Third place saw the CBD’s quaint The Little Hunter. With a showstopping 750-gram rib eye on the bone, and a great selection of meats, this is a spot that does steaks, sides and Adelaide wines well, all in a stunning historic building that dates back to the 1800s.
The Kitchen
Rounding out the top five were two renowned venues, Coal Cellar + Grill in fourth and The Kitchen in fifth. Coal Cellar + Grill has in-house butchers who treat guests to on-the-bone cuts and certified black Angus beef. And The Kitchen has an impressive eye fillet and rib eye that have been aged for more than 200 days, and the Wagyu cuts all have an 8+ marble score.
Following on, St Morris’s Hoosegow Charcoal Restaurant came in sixth, Gouger Street’s Gaucho’s Argentinian Restaurant in seventh, A Hereford Beefstouw on Hutt Street was eighth, Hindley Street’s The Black Bull Hotel in ninth, and finally, North Terrace’s La Boca Bar and Grill in tenth.
La Boca Bar and Grill
The list celebrates venues doing steak exceptionally well. So, whether you’re here visiting, planning a long lunch, a special night out, or simply craving a properly cooked piece of meat, these are the spots Time Out says deserve a place at the top of your summer dining hit list.
