Adelaide is settling into a far more comfortable stretch of weather over the coming week, with showers easing today, mild daytime temperatures, cooler nights and plenty of sunshine on the way, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
The rest of Sunday remains the most unsettled period, with showers gradually easing through the afternoon after a wet start. Adelaide will reach a top of 24 degrees, with 1 to 6 millimetres of rainfall possible and an early chance of a thunderstorm. Winds will be gusty at times, shifting from westerly to southerly later in the day. Despite the cloud and rain, sun protection is still essential, with the UV Index predicted to reach an extreme level of 12. Slippery roads are expected across the metro area, and drivers are urged to take extra care.
Conditions improve noticeably on Monday as a ridge of high pressure moves across the state. Adelaide will see partly cloudy skies, a cooler overnight minimum of 13 degrees and a mild daytime maximum of 23 degrees. Only a slight chance of a shower lingers, with generally calmer winds.
Tuesday continues the settled pattern, with another partly cloudy day and temperatures nudging up slightly. Expect a low of 15 degrees and a top of 24 degrees, with a mostly sunny afternoon after a small chance of morning showers.
Midweek stays comfortable as cloud hangs around but rain chances remain low. Wednesday will be cloudy at times with a maximum of 25 degrees, while Christmas Eve brings similar conditions as skies gradually begin to clear.
Christmas Day is shaping up to be pleasant and relaxed, with cloud clearing and a top of 25 degrees. From there, summer makes a stronger return. Friday is forecast to be sunny with a high of 29 degrees, before Saturday heats up further with sunshine and temperatures climbing to around 34 degrees.
Across the state, a low-pressure system clears South Australia by late Sunday, allowing high-pressure conditions to dominate through much of the week. While extreme fire danger is forecast today for parts of the Mid North and Riverland, conditions ease as cooler air settles in. Strong wind warnings remain in place for several coastal and marine zones today, but are expected to improve as the system moves east.
